International Travel to New Zealand

Why would someone bother to travel all the way across the globe to go and visit a small country tucked away down under named New Zealand? Is that a question you have ever asked yourself?

Well, from my experiences in travel I think there are a few things that draw me to visit New Zealand... One of those is the clarity in the air when you wake up in the morning out of the main centres, or in the main centres when the conditions are right. I remember back in the early 1980's people travelled from all over the world to New Zealand to view Hayley's Comet. The reason was the clear air and this is one thing that New Zealand can offer in this planet of ours that is becoming more and more polluted. Having lived in the high country of New Zealand for over 15 years I must comment on those mornings when the air was so clear it really was 'crystal clear' looking up at the mountains. Somehow it made you feel a part of the countryside and I will always reflect on the nature of New Zealand with a closeness that was a true relationship you felt. When I came to leave the high country, it was with deep sadness and not so much for the people but for the natural beauty with the wonderful clarity.

Then there is the scenery that you experience... You may see similar scenes in other parts of the world and yet New Zealand seems to be made up of little pockets of different types of natural beauty. It is no wonder that New Zealand has often been referred to as 'God's Own Country'.

Another thing that draws me back to Christchurch, New Zealand is the water there. Where in this world can you experience the sweet taste of the Christchurch, New Zealand water fresh from the tap? I am yet to find it. There are plenty of places where the water supply looks good but once you have lived in those places with an electric jug and seen the build up of chemicals on the side you realise there is more than just pure water in that water supply. Yet the Christchurch, New Zealand water is the best that I have ever tasted - of course I may be a little biased! That is what the wonderful people of Canterbury, New Zealand are known for though - their one-eyed views, especially when it comes to supporting their local rugby team, the Canterbury Crusaders, a very popular pasttime in Canterbury, New Zealand...
