New Zealand is indeed a golfer's paradise, and a dream come true for the many visitors from countries where golf is a sport reserved for the wealthy. The average New Zealander is able to afford golf club membership. Green fees at some courses are below NZ$20 and average from NZ$25-$50.

Facilities at the golf clubhouses can vary from basic necessities to excellent. This depends on the size of membership and financial position of the club. The golf course playing conditions also vary. Greens are usually in a good to high standard throughout the year, however, sometimes the fairways can get dry in summer (December to April) if full irrigation systems are not installed.

You will find that dress standards vary from club to club. Jeans are generally not permitted at the more expensive golf courses and golf shoes must be worn. Tee shirts and beach shorts are frowned upon at most golf courses. Walk shorts with short socks is acceptable dress at most courses, although a few particular courses insist on long socks being worn. It pays to check the dress code before arriving or come with a back-up wardrobe available.
