Dunedin

The population of Dunedin is approximately 118,200 people. The airport is located 28km from the city, around a 30 minute drive. From Dunedin you will need to drive 360km north (4hr 30 min) to get to Christchurch or 280km (3hr 50min) west to get to Queenstown.

Dunedin is the major service centre for the Otago region. There is a strong focus in Dunedin around the Otago University with education and research and development. Dunedin also has manufacturing and processing, technology and the port and other transport and distribution services.

Dunedin has strong historical roots and throughout the Otago region there are many interesting historical places. The gold mining played a big part in the regions history and the Macraes Gold Mining is still very active today. It is well worth a drive to see the activity.
