Southern Most Capital in the World

Wellington, New Zealand is further south than any other capital city in the world with a latitude of 41º 17’ South.

Most Northerly Point of New Zealand

Surville Cliffs (formerly Kerr Point) is the northernmost extremity of New Zealand, about 5km north of Cape Reinga and north of North Cape.

Most Southerly Point of New Zealand

The southernmost part of New Zealand is South Cape on the South Coast of Stewart Island. The southernmost island administered by New Zealand is Campbell Island. Ross Dependency is the southernmost territory of New Zealand since it runs down to the South Pole.

Most Easterly Point of New Zealand

East Cape, north of Gisborne, a sandy point with an islet offshore, is the farthest point east in mainland New Zealand.

Most Westerly Point of New Zealand

The westernmost part of the mainland of New Zealand is West Cape, south of Dusky Sound, Fiordland. Further west, although not strictly part of the mainland, is Five Fingers Peninsula on Resolution Island. It is located nearby West Cape.
